Burning the past

I culled my Reading List.

Note: I'm not calling it a 'Friends List' despite the fact that LJ labels it as such. I want no one to think that I'm dropping you as a 'Friend' because I take your journal off my 'Reading List'.

So, if you haven't commented in my journal for a while (or if ever), we've lost touch, you don't post in your journal any longer, or if I simply want you to start keeping track of how my real-life is by calling, visiting, or e-mailing me, you'll be removed.

It's nothing personal. Honest!

Why I have a Friends-Only Journal

With credit and permission to use some blocks of text from [info]trystbat.

I've happily used LiveJournal to express my inner ramblings and to connect with friends, old and new, from online and off. However, due to unfortunate incidents, I've made all my posts friends-only. That means I have to add your LJ username to my Friends List to let you read anything I write here. And I have become rather selective about who I add. I also use a lot of filters so even if you are a 'friend' to my journal, you might not necessarily be aware of everything I post. I do not allow just anyone to read what I write (even if they are on my friend-list), and if you're not on my friend-list, there's a legitimate reason. Plus I usually don't care to read what some people post either.

I use LJ as a personal diary, recording whatever's in my head that day, from the silly to the sublime. I make to-do lists, I plan costumes, I arrange convention stuff, and I ruminate on my past. I also use LJ to keep up on the daily happenings of my friends, many of whom are scattered around the world.

If you're not currently on my Friends List but you want to be, please leave a comment. If you think you know me from somewhere, please elaborate. Did we go to school together, work together, meet at a convention? Are you a friend of someone I know offline or on?

Yeah, this all sounds awfully picky. That's just the way the online privacy cookie has crumbled for me. I may be an open, laid-back, outgoing person, but this journal is more private. Thanks for understanding.

One more thing: "Friend-list" is such a politically charged word. I wish LJ would allow for different names to be used (such as "Subscribed to", or the like) as too much Dramah can erupt when someone is 'defriended'. A 'Defriending' for me means removing journals of people who never/rarely post, people who I friended who I actually don't know all that well, distancing myself for a bit from people who I used to know well, or Just Because. It's my journal, after all, and I do get whimsies. :)
